The 127th Manchester Derby was always going to be memorable as the two great rivals would come face to face at Maine Road in the League for the very last time.
Since 1925 the famous old ground has played host to this most passionate of local derbies. City hadn’t beaten United since 1989, a game which had Maine Road humming to the tune of five one, as a home team packed full of youth team graduates humbled their mighty rivals on an afternoon no City fan will ever forget.
This Manchester Derby would really have to go some to outdo that occasion and as it was Maine Road’s final league derby there was an even greater sense of anticipation and excitement. Could Kevin Keegan’s team of 2002 create a long lasting memory by which the fans could always remember their beloved Maine Road?
